About Our Troop  About Our Troop

Troop 355 is a Boy Scout troop based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Troop is run by its Scouts and led by fully trained adult leaders as envisioned by Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts almost 100 years ago. The Troop is always on the go and while we are doing, our Scouts are learning - while having fun - their duty to God and Country, their duty to others, and lastly, their duty to themselves. Our Scouts and Scouters are expected to live by the 12 points of the Scout Law in their daily lives.

Our Troop has been recognized by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America as a Quality Unit each of the eight years we have been in existence.

Always looking for a few new Scouts!
Do you want to know more about Scouting? Perhaps you're new in town and looking for a troop to join? You've come to the right place! Though Troop 355 hosted an Open House recruitment event at Sharon United Methodist Church (SUMC) on Thursday, August 26, we are always open to welcoming new or transferring Scouts. Come by and sit in on a regular Troop Meeting any Monday at 7pm. At the Open House, Scouts gave skills demonstrations on activities ranging from outdoor cooking, first aid, pioneering, Pinewood Derby, and pop rockets. A slide show presentation of past Troop 355 outings was shown in the Wesley Center, and Scout leaders were on hand to answer questions about Scout activities and troop organization. SUMC is located on Sharon Road between Colony and Fairview (across from the main entrance of the SouthPark Mall, and across the street from the Morrowcroft Harris Teeter).
Magazine Features Troop 355 Eagle Scout
The June 2004 issue of "Boy’s Life" featured one of Troop 355's Eagle Scouts on the cover with two other Eagles and a WWII veteran. The guys visited Normandy with the Veteran and he shared his experience of the D-day invasion. DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY. It was a great trip and experience for the group.

Best In The Galaxy  Best In The Galaxy

Our annual January BBQ fundraiser event makes it possible for us to provide our boys all of the wonderful opportunties and experiences available through the Scouting program. A portion of the profits are also given back to the community, both local and worldwide, each year.

This year we cooked 10,000 pounds of pork, down from 13,000 the year before. Thanks to everyone who worked to make this event so successful. There is no more BBQ available until January 2010!

Each December, we bottle three kinds of our own secret recipe sauces: Eastern Mild, Eastern Hot, and Western (tomato-based). Folks tell us they love the sauces on the meat alone or mixed together. They also make super marinades and basting sauce for both pork and poultry. Sauces are priced at $3.50/pint. We do still have some sauce available for purchase.

So, how to buy some of our “Best in the Galaxy” BBQ? Sauce is usually available throughout the year. Beginning in December each year we begin to take pre-sale orders for BBQ and coleslaw. Contact Gary (at the email address listed below) or any Troop 355 Boy Scout or adult to place an order. You can also download an order form (see link below) and mail in your order form and payment. Once the BBQ is packed, you'll have two days to pick it up. We also offer some walk-up sales during BBQ week.

To purchase BBQ and sauce, send an email to Gary, or download an order form (see link below).
